Winchester now has its very first Kids Traffic Garden!

Arte Libre, BikeWalk Winchester & VACDES Bike Bus have teamed up to create a series of mini roads for kids to practice safe biking. Bonus! A complete revitalization of the VACDES blacktop.

During the summer of 2025, a group of volunteers from Arte Libre, BikeWalk Winchester, and VACDES Bike Bus completed phase 1. This phase was funded by a grant obtained through Arte Libre. Now it's time for Phase 2 and WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Purchase a can of paint, or 2 or 3!
During phase one, we laid down the basic road, including stop signs, yield signs, yellow lines and other traffic indicators. Now for the fun part! Phase two involves designs by VACDES students. We just need the paint!!
Can you spare ~$50 for a can of paint? Just to be safe, we think we need about 150 gallons, or about $7,500.

A traffic garden is a series of mini roads for kids to practice safe biking. It's an incredible tool to get kids outside and to build confidence! It's also a whole lotta fun!!
